A decorative row of slide thumbnails, the way a deck looks in a slide sorter: openers, text slides, a chart, a table, a section divider and a closing slide, with one of them ringed as the slide under discussion. How many of them the row shows depends on the width of the window. None of them carries any text.

Presentation design

Your slides, put in order

You already have the words, the figures and the brand. What you do not have is the afternoon it takes to make the slides look like one deck rather than a pile of them. Send what you have; it comes back laid out, consistent and editable, as an editable PowerPoint file (.pptx) and a PDF of the same deck.

What the work actually is

Nothing on your slides is written for you, and no number on them is worked out for you. What changes is the arrangement.

Printed slide handouts spread in rows across a pale desk, lit from one side, the slides too small to read.

A deck arrives as copy that has already been agreed, figures that have already been checked and a logo that already exists. It is laid out: type sizes and colours set once and applied throughout, headings and lists given a visible order of importance, section dividers where the argument turns, and charts and tables that already exist brought into the same system with the Business Presentation and the Extended Presentation.

It comes back in two files. The PowerPoint file is built on slide masters, so the next person to edit it inherits the style instead of fighting it; the PDF is the same deck for sending on and for printing.

Copywriting and work on the data behind a chart are both quoted separately in writing, before anything is done, and neither is started until you have agreed to it. Everything else outside the packages is listed in full on the How it works page.

How many slides

The number the finished deck should run to, as near as you know it. It is one of the two numbers the figure is worked out from.

The source file

The deck as it stands, or the document the deck is to be made from. A link with viewing access does the same job as an attachment.

Brand materials

Logo, colours, guidelines and any font you hold a licence for. Where there are none, say so and one consistent style is proposed instead.

When you need it

The date it has to be in your hands. Turnaround is counted in working days from the point the clock starts, so an early date is worth saying early.

Packages

Three sizes, £180 to £560

A figure is the price of the smallest package whose two limits both cover the deck: how many slides it runs to, and how many charts or tables that already exist have to be restyled. A deck with few slides and a lot of charts therefore sits in a larger package, because the charts are what it needs.

Past 35 slides, or past 8 charts and tables, no package covers it. There is no published figure for a deck like that, and it is quoted in writing on its own.

Every figure is in pounds sterling, charged per project, and is the whole of what is payable for the work described. Nothing is added afterwards, and the full contents of each package are on the Packages page.

One slide, laid out twice

What arranging actually changes

Both slides in a pair are drawn from one set of words and one set of figures. Nothing is added on the right, nothing is dropped, and no number is recalculated: what changes is the arrangement.

As it arrives

Workshop bookings, spring quarter

  • Bristol: 1,240
  • Bath: 860
  • Exeter: 610
  • Taunton: 430
  • All four branches: 3,140

Up 13% on the winter quarter, when the four branches took 2,780 bookings between them.

Every figure in one list at one size, in the order they came out of the spreadsheet, with the comparison tacked on at the end. Nothing on the slide says which line is the one to look at, so a room reads them all and remembers none.

The same lines, and the same figures. The total moves to the top and is set large, because it is the answer and the room wants it first; the branches are drawn to scale against each other so the shape of the quarter can be seen rather than worked out; the comparison stays where a footnote belongs. Nothing has been added, nothing dropped, and no figure recalculated.

There is a second pair, and the whole of what can be sent in and what comes back, on the How it works page.

What is not in any package

None of it is refused as a matter of principle and some of it can be arranged. It is simply outside the figure at all three sizes, and nothing on this site suggests otherwise.

How it works, in full
  • Writing or rewriting your copy. The words are placed as supplied.
  • Analysing your data, checking your figures or working out what they mean. A deck is laid out from conclusions you have already reached.
  • Building a chart from raw numbers. Charts are restyled where they already exist, and where they do not, making one is quoted separately in writing.
  • Translating or proofreading the text on the slides.
  • Sourcing photographs or illustrations, or buying stock, font or template licences on your behalf.
  • Animation, video editing, voice-over and anything that turns the deck into a film.
  • Rehearsing, presenting or speaker coaching.
  • Printing, binding and postage. Nothing is posted.
An empty meeting room, chairs pushed in, a blank projection screen lit at one end.

Send the deck as it stands

The form asks four things: how many slides, what the source file is, what brand materials you hold and when you need it. It writes the request out, works out which package the counts fall into, and hands the letter to your own email application. Sending it is still your keystroke.

The Ten Slide Refresh is £180 for up to 10 slides in one style with one round of changes, and 4-5 working days once payment and the complete material have both arrived.
